The Brazilian butt lift is an optimal procedure for any patient who would like a fuller, rounder buttocks to complement their figure. As larger, curvier buttocks become more desirable, interest in Brazilian butt lifts continues to grow.
It has also become significantly more popular because it can achieve the same results as a traditional buttock enhancement without the requirement of implants. The surgery itself consists of extracting fat from a separate area of the body (such as the abdomen or flanks) and depositing it onto the buttocks to enhance its appearance. Proper injection of the transferred fat must be performed by a skilled plastic surgeon with contouring experience. Dr. Aghayan’s knowledge and adeptness in this area will help you achieve an outstanding, natural-looking result.
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure that can help you achieve the curvier, fuller buttocks you desire. Unlike implants, a BBL utilizes your own body fat for a natural-looking enhancement that complements your unique figure. During the procedure, Dr. Aghayan strategically extracts fat from areas like the abdomen, thighs, or hips and transfers it to your buttocks, sculpting them to your desired shape.
Brazilian butt lifts offer several unique benefits.
Even with rigorous exercise and targeted workouts, it can often be impossible to add volume and lift to your backside. Doing so, however, can greatly enhance your overall physical appeal.
A Brazilian butt lift is the perfect solution when you can do no more on your own with diet and exercise. You won’t require implants, but you’ll get the same volume, lift, and curve with natural-looking results.
A body that has good overall proportions is often said to have a healthy “waist-to-hip ratio.” That is, their waist is proportional to their hips. When the waist-to-hip ratio is not ideal, this can offset a person’s overall silhouette.
Sometimes, rather than reducing other parts of the body — such as the waist — in order to achieve more desirable proportions, it can be beneficial to simply add volume to the buttocks. This is best achieved with a Brazilian butt lift.
The Brazilian butt lift is one of the rare plastic surgeries that actually require you to have at least a little bit of excess fat on your body. The good news is, however, that this fat will be reduced in order to accommodate the fat transfer process.
While the procedure only necessitates the removal of a small amount of fat, this can still make a big difference to the appearance of your silhouette. As a side note, if you would like to remove more fat from certain areas of your body, this can always be done with additional liposuction procedures.
Through the fat transfer process for a Brazilian butt lift Portland plastic surgeon, Dr. Aghayan, may also be able to smooth out any cellulite that is visible on the surface of your buttocks. This can be achieved through proper depositing of the transferred fat and delicate massage, which is used to distribute the fat. In addition, Brazilian butt lifts always tend to result in firmer, fuller buttocks with limited, if any, dimpling.
If your rear end has always been an area of your body you’ve been displeased with, you can rest assured a Brazilian butt lift will improve its appearance. With the help of this procedure, you can expect to gain more confidence about the way you look and feel more comfortable in your skin and clothes.
When considering butt augmentation, you have two primary options: Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and butt implants. Both procedures aim to enhance the shape and volume of your buttocks, but they achieve this in different ways.

Meet Dr. AghayanThe ideal candidate for a Brazilian butt lift is in good overall physical health and has realistic expectations when it comes to cosmetic surgery.
t’s also important that you have enough excess fat that you’d like to get rid of on your body. This is something Dr. Aghayan will assess at your consultation appointment. If you don’t have enough extra fat, it will be impossible to extract the necessary amount for the transfer process. Also keep in mind that any loose, hanging skin on the buttocks will not be able to be fixed with a Brazilian butt lift. Rather, this would be something you’d want to take care of with a traditional butt lift or lower body contouring.
During your initial consultation appointment, you will discuss your desired outcome for surgery with Portland Brazilian butt lift surgeon, Dr. Aghayan. He may request that you undergo certain lab tests or medical evacuations.
He’ll also want to speak with you about your medical history, so be sure to bring any pertinent documents and a list of all medications or supplements you are taking. In some cases, you may be required to adjust these as your procedure nears. It will also be crucial to cease smoking and drinking alcohol at a certain point before your surgery. You will be given specific instructions unique to your situation as your surgery date nears.
For our patients in Portland Brazilian butt lifts are outpatient procedures, which means you’ll be able to go home on the same day as your surgery.
On average, these surgeries take about two to three hours to perform. The exact duration will largely depend on the amount of fat being removed and transferred. Most Brazilian butt lift procedures follow the same basic pattern during surgery:
Once your surgery has been completed, you will be monitored for a short period of time before you can be sent home. Dr. Aghayan will supply you with post-surgical instructions that it will be important to closely follow. As you attend postoperative appointments with Dr. Aghayan, he will let you know when and how you can resume your regular daily activities.
It’s important to keep in mind that separate areas of the body need to heal after a Brazilian butt lift, including wherever fat was extracted and the buttocks where fat was deposited. You’ll need to avoid sitting on your buttocks for at least 14 days following surgery in order to allow the area to heal. Using a Boppy nursing pillow or other doughnut shaped pillow will allow you to sit without putting pressure on your buttocks (rather, the pressure will be placed on your legs). As you heal, it is recommended that you take short walks and use light stretching in order to reduce swelling and improve blood flow. Post-surgical massage can also sometimes be used to speed and improve healing. You will generally be able to see the full results of your Brazilian butt lift in about four to six weeks.
While the initial swelling and bruising may subside within the first few weeks, it can take several months for your body to fully settle and for the transferred fat to integrate with your natural tissues.
Here's a breakdown of the timeline:
Please note: Individual results may vary, and factors like your body's healing process and the amount of fat transferred can influence the timeline.
Following your BBL Portland plastic surgeon, Dr. Aghayan, will provide detailed aftercare instructions to optimize healing and ensure the best possible outcome. These typically include:
Liposuction is already a part of any Brazilian butt lift because the fat that will ultimately plump and add volume to your buttocks must be taken from somewhere. Some candidates for Brazilian butt lift surgery may only have just enough fat to remove for this process, but others may desire additional liposuction, which can help slim and contour other parts of the body.
Often, patients who struggle with a flat, flabby buttocks also struggle with sagging thighs. A thigh lift, or thighplasty can lift, smooth, and contour the thighs for an overall enhanced appearance. Thighplasty can also get rid of excess skin on this area of the body.
If your entire lower body is an area you would like to improve the appearance of, you may benefit from a lower body lift. This procedure can remove excess fat, skin, and tissue in the lower abdomen, flanks, and thighs. For the buttocks, the key difference is that while the Brazilian butt lift will add fat and plumpness to the buttocks alone, the lower body lift procedure will also remove flabby excess skin there. It’s the most comprehensive procedure for the lower half of the body.
You should be at a healthy stable weight prior to Brazilian butt lift surgery. Still, you must also have enough excess fat on your body so that the fat transfer process is possible. Ideally, patients are around 20 to 30 pounds above their ideal weight. This allows them to get the most benefit from their Brazilian butt lift.
Not necessarily. However, you should be close to your ideal weight.
The reasons for this are two-fold. First, if you lose too much weight, you won’t have enough excess fat on your body to complete the fat transfer process and attain maximum benefit from this procedure.
At the same time, you don’t want to be too far over your ideal weight before surgery because if you end up losing a significant amount of weight after surgery, you may end up losing volume in your buttocks that was unaccounted for during the fat transfer process. This can cause your ultimate results to be lacking.
Both butt augmentation with silicone implants and fat transfer butt augmentation (a Brazilian butt lift) are viable options for improving the appearance of your rear end. The main benefits of a Brazilian butt lift are more natural-looking results and no need to worry about the implant shifting or causing issues in the future. Dr. Aghayan is happy to discuss both options with you and recommend the best procedure for your situation.
Whereas a Brazilian butt lift grafts excess fat from other areas of the body onto the buttocks to add volume and curves, a traditional butt lift takes care of excess skin on the buttocks. These two procedures can often be combined for optimal results.
Not really. Even though a Brazilian butt lift can fill out some of the extra skin on your rear end, the primary goal of the surgery is to add volume. Therefore, in order to remove significant excess skin from the buttocks, you would need either a traditional butt lift or a lower body lift. These procedures can help ameliorate sagging skin on the buttocks by removing the excess skin altogether. It’s also possible to combine multiple procedures.
Because general anesthesia is typically used, you should not feel any pain during the surgery itself. After surgery, you may be sore and have some discomfort. Dr. Aghayan will provide you with measures to mitigate this discomfort and fast track healing. With time, any remaining soreness and pain will subside.
Because you’ll need to avoid putting pressure on your buttocks after surgery, you’ll want to primarily lie on your back or side.
You’ll need to wait about 14 days to sit completely on your buttocks. Before that time, use a Boppy nursing pillow or a doughnut-shaped pillow to put the pressure on your legs instead of your rear end.
You’ll want to wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing over top of your compression garments for the first few weeks after surgery. You don’t want to wear tight jeans that may restrict blood flow and lead to the loss of fat tissue. Most patients are able to wear tighter jeans within a few months of surgery.
The results from a Brazilian butt lift can last for many years, but they are not necessarily permanent. For the longest-lasting results, it’s best that you reach a healthy stable weight prior to surgery. This should be a weight that you would be happy maintaining post-surgery and one that would be relatively easy to maintain.
The vast majority of patients who undergo Brazilian butt lift surgery do not have issues with their recovery. It is an extremely common procedure. Still, as with any surgery, there are some risks and complications that all patients should be aware of. These include:
